I must confess that I believe one of my all-time favorite teachers is Joyce Meyer. Today I was reading an excerpt from her book Woman to Woman, and she was talking about reasons for discontentment, especially among women. Her #1 reason was greed, and here is why…

“Hebrews 13:5 says, ‘Let your character or moral disposition be free from the love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]‘… This Scripture lets us know that we can and should be satisfied where we are, while we are getting to where we are going.” (Scripture from Amplified Bible)

I feel like I’ve memorized and heard that verse a hundred times over, but for whatever reason, the Amplified Bible helped it come alive anew for me. I know I’m not supposed to be materialistic and greedy, but I think rather than focusing so hard on things, I need to really focus on God as One Who has never and will never fail me or let me down. He’s never left me hanging, and He’s never let me down. He takes good care of His kids.

Being content means that even when I don’t particularly care for a situation I’m in, I still trust God–trusting Him to never fail me or leave me.
